马来西亚半岛上的领土于1946年首次统一为马来亚联盟. Malaysia achieved independence in 1957. 1963年9月16日，马来亚与北婆罗洲、沙捞越和新加坡合并，成为马来西亚.

Malaysia has a total landmass of 330,803 square kilometres separated by the South China Sea into two similarly sized regions, Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. 马来西亚半岛与泰国接壤，与新加坡接壤, Vietnam, and Indonesia. 东马来西亚与文莱和印度尼西亚有陆地和海上边界，与菲律宾和越南有海上边界.

Malaysia has GDP growth of an average of 6.5% per annum for almost 50 years. The economy has traditionally been fuelled by its natural resources, but is expanding in the sectors of science, tourism, commerce and medical tourism.

马来西亚公民享有免费的公共教育，直至中学教育水平，公共高等教育费用得到高达90%的补贴. 马来西亚的市场经济在东南亚排名第4，在世界排名第38.
